I cried in front of my boss recently.
It wasn’t because I was sad about what I was going through in my personal life, but because he said,
“I know exactly what you are going through.”
At that moment, I felt so understood and a wave of relief rushed over me, bringing tears to my eyes.
Going through infertility treatment, I was worried that a male boss will judge my work performance if I have to miss some calls and start work late some mornings.
As we talk about #breakthebias, I want to call out women’s own biases towards ourselves and towards males.
On this International Women’s Day, I want to celebrate #maleallies who make women feel understood and supported, who are empowering their wives and daughters, who challenge their teams’ biases (male/female) when they said “it cannot be done”, who told me, “you don’t need changing, just be who you are.”
#Inclusive male leaders, thank you for leading the way.
